Accounts and testimonies of compliance have, in torrents, continued to flood in from Nsukka Markets, where positive indicators have depicted the effectivity of the City Mayor's Public Awareness Initiative that is currently sweeping through the Council Area like a storm.

Only a few days ago, one can remember, on Wednesday, the 25th of March, 2020, to be precise, the City Mayor's outpouring knack and determination to wade off the Pandemic from Nsukka LGA, had driven him to the convocation of a well attended town hall sensitization parley with the gatekeepers of every stratum of Nsukka Markets, the Traditional Rulers and, of course, leaders of of Law enforcement Agencies in the LGA: the police, the DSS, Civil Defence, e.t.c.
And leveraging on the meeting, the City Mayor had shared out Sanitizers, face masks, Sanitary buckets and IEC Material, to the attendees and had given them tips on the best proactive, protective practices on how to use the items.

Asking them to replicate the gesture in their own areas of jurisdiction, he had also directed that the key learnings be passed down to their downliners.
In less than 48 hours after that directive, the Chairman of Nsukka Building Material Market, Hon. Comrade George Okonkwo, became one of the first market leaders to heed the City Mayor's orders.
In a chat with the Council's Media Team, recently, the former Youth Leader of the PDP in the LGA, heaped accolades on the City Mayor, saying that his Sensitization programme is highly appreciated by the traders.

Further endorsing the gesture, he said, "The City Mayor's Initiative is very nice. It is a welcome devemopment. Everybody in the market welcomes the idea. It is a very good one because prevention is better than cure."
Continuing, he said, "We have done what the Executive Chairman has directed us to do. We did it exactly the way he directed us.
"If you come to the market, every line now has two Hand Washing and Sanitization Stand, one at the beginning of the line and the other, at its end.

"If you are coming in as a customer or a trader, you, first, wash your hands; you sanitize your hands; and as you are going, you do the same thing.
"So we have done it the way the City Mayor directed and everybody is happy with him."
Also describing the City Mayor's intervention as a bold and good step, he added "With this kind of arrangement, I believe we will be safe."

Hon Okonkwo in a message of goodwill to the City Mayor, Hon Chief Patrick Omeje, prayed for him, asking God to give him more wisdom. He said, "My prayer is that God gives the City Mayor more wisdom . Let the good works continue. He has started well and I pray he will continue in that line.
"God will give him the wisdom and knowledge to carry Nsukka to the next level," he concluded.

Even as Nsukka people and their markets, in line with the directives of the State Government, gird their loins in readiness for a lockdown, it is believed that the City Mayor's far reaching behavioural impacts on the psyche of the traders of Nsukka Building Material Market and indeed, traders in other markets, would last them a long time.
God Bless The City Mayor.
